THE NEW HANOVER HUMANE SOCIETY
To our prospective clients:
Thank you for your interest in spaying or neutering your pet and for your interest in our low cost clinic! I'd like a couple of minutes of your time to explain the purpose of this clinic and why this either may or may not be the right veterinary facility in which to have your pet sterilized.
Our surgery clinic was licensed and opened in 1991 with the primary purpose of desexing adoptable pets relinquished to the Humane Society Shelter and a secondary goal of offering a low cost alternative for financially needy owners to have their pets altered.
All surgeries are performed by North Carolina licensed and experienced veterinarians using individual sterile instruments and suture for each pet, trained technical observation and electrocardiogram monitoring during anesthesia, pain management for patients on day of surgery and for home administration, and gas anesthesia. The actual expense of these services exceeds our low cost prices and this expense is offset by the generous donors to the Humane Society with the great hope of reducing the number of discarded dogs and cats.
However, there are services that can lessen your pet's risk of anesthesia complications: pre-anesthetic bloodwork, IV catheterization and fluid therapy with blood pressure/end CO2 and oxygen saturation monitoring during surgery.
Unfortunately, our clinic cannot offer these services, but local private veterinary practitioners can and do! So, I would greatly urge anyone who is financially able to establish a doctor/owner/pet relationship with a local vet and allow that vet to peform your pet's surgery. Our low cost clinic was not established to be a "bargain" but to offer a safe, humane, sterile procedure for unwanted pets and under-served owners.
If you feel that our clinic can best serve your needs then please call us! We'll be happy to assist you!
